Opus Host provides free servers to the community with the goal of making accessible computing available to everyone. To keep things fair, stable, and safe for all users, there are clear rules about what you can and can’t do with your VPS. Please read this policy before deploying anything on your server.

What’s allowed

You’re welcome to use your Opus Host VPS for a wide range of personal and development purposes, including:
  • Hosting personal websites and blogs
  • Running Discord bots or other chat platform integrations
  • Hosting game servers (such as Minecraft, Terraria, and similar titles)
  • Learning Linux, system administration, and software development
  • Running web applications and REST APIs
  • Hosting static files, media, or small databases
  • Experimenting with open-source software and self-hosted tools

What’s NOT allowed

The following activities are strictly prohibited on Opus Host. Violations can result in immediate suspension of your account and VPS without warning.
  • Sending spam or bulk email — outbound port 25 is blocked on all free VPS instances
  • Mining cryptocurrency — any form of coin mining is forbidden due to the excessive CPU and power usage
  • Running DDoS attacks or network scanners — you must not use your VPS to attack, probe, or scan other hosts
  • Hosting illegal content — this includes pirated software, movies, or music, as well as any content involving the sexual exploitation of minors (CSAM) or other illegal material
  • Sharing or reselling your VPS — your VPS is for your personal use only; subletting or selling access is not permitted
  • Operating botnets or distributing malware — your server must not be used to compromise, infect, or control other systems
  • Proxying traffic to abuse other services — do not route traffic through your VPS in a way that circumvents rate limits or abuses third-party platforms
  • Attempting to access other users’ servers — any unauthorized access to infrastructure that isn’t yours is strictly forbidden

Resource fair use

Opus Host does not enforce hard caps on bandwidth for normal, everyday usage. However, to protect the experience of all users on shared infrastructure, the following guidelines apply:
  • Sustained high CPU usage — running workloads that max out CPU for extended periods may trigger throttling or a review of your account
  • Excessive network traffic — unusually high outbound or inbound traffic volumes may be rate-limited to prevent impact on other users
  • Storage abuse — filling your allocated disk with bulk files unrelated to legitimate use may be flagged

Consequences of violations

Opus Host handles policy violations on a case-by-case basis:
  • First offense (minor violations) — you may receive a written warning and be asked to remove or stop the offending activity
  • Severe violations — activities such as running attacks, hosting illegal content, or distributing malware will result in immediate account suspension without any refund or appeal window
  • Repeat violations — repeated breaches of this policy, even minor ones, will result in permanent suspension
  • Illegal activity — any activity that violates applicable law will be reported to the relevant authorities, and FreeHost will cooperate fully with any legal investigation

Reporting abuse

If you believe another Opus Host user is violating this policy — for example, using their VPS to conduct attacks or host harmful content — please report it to the Opus Host support team. Include the IP address of the offending VPS and a brief description of the activity you observed. Reports are reviewed promptly and handled confidentially.
These rules exist to keep Opus Host free, fast, and available for everyone. The vast majority of users never run into any issues. We appreciate your cooperation in helping maintain a healthy and respectful community.
